Socialization and Role Play in Music Learning

 When I think about role play and socialization,    I think back to being an elementary student and playing games or role playing scenarios. Fast forward to preparing to be a teacher and we were required to role play different scenarios to gain insights into different ways to handle the same situation. In Lewis and Campbell’s article, they focus on the importance of children’s play to learn. While there is a major focus on children’s play, there does not appear to be much focus on older students. As older students need the chance to play and create,   cultural games that are age are necessary. Alternatively, I think it is also important for students to role play in musical scenarios of examples of those who are adults or similar in age who are inspirational to them. One example of such a scenario might be to do like karaoke in a vocal class, in which the students study a cultural, listen, and try to imitate a musician in sound, presence, and style.
